Our Mission

It is our mission to encourage enthusiasm about learning in a hands-on environment that opens the world even to the youngest child.

Our History

  • Opened in December 1977 and is located in a historic 1923 Train Depot.
  • One of only a few children's museums to open on the West Coast during the 1970's.
  • 10,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits about the arts, sciences, world cultures and everyday life.


The Children’s Museum at La Habra has an average of 95,000 children, parents and teachers that visit annually.

Permanent Exhibits

Our Museum features 7 galleries and 14 different hands on exhibits, many of which remain unique to the field today. In addition to these exhibits, an outdoor dinosaur topiary and historic 1942 caboose, the Museum features an exhibit which changes 2 times a year.

Current Changing Exhibit 

Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China  January 23 - May 27, 2018  

Join kids from Hangzhou, China for a close up experience of China today. Explore school, home, theater, and a farm, all set against a beautiful backdrop of traditional Chinese paintings. Try out some of their everyday activities: write in Chinese, cook with grandmother, plant rice, and perform in a traditional Chinese opera! Hangzhou combines the best of old and new, rustic countryside and modern urban center. The Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China exhibit presents China from the viewpoint of four young people. This exhibit was created by The Boston Children’s Museum and is part of the Freeman Foundation Asian Culture Exhibit Series, funded by The Freeman Foundation and administered by Association of Children’s Museums.

Lindo Mexico June 19-December 31, 2018

A new exhibit called Lindo Mexico!  is opening up this June! Visit Abuelita’s Kitchen, celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, shop in a colorful Mercado, visit an Aztec Ruin, and learn what inventions Mexico has contributed to the world! Come enjoy the fun and beauty of our nearest neighboring country!

Special Events & Programs

Guided Tours / Field Trips

Our docent-led Museum tours offer an educational experience that complements classroom learning and bridges the Museum and classroom curriculum. Learn more about it at our Field Trip page.


Scholarship programs are provided to local under-served schools. These programs allow the Museum to offer additional educational tools to compliment the Museum visit with outreach materials, on-site educators and workshops, as well as teacher Professional Development. Early Childhood Activity Classes

Activity Blasts

Children experience the Children’s Museum galleries and exhibits through engaging themed activities in science, theater, and creepy crawly animal encounters.

Target Free First Sundays

This program offers fun and educational family programming provided to residents of La Habra and surrounding communities grant-funded by Target. These days offer themed activities include music, dance, and visual arts activities and performances for families and children of all ages.
